Anahita and Apoorva render splendid concert at Nanganallur

Chennai: Anahita and Apoorva rendered a splendid concert at Nanganallur Anjaneyar Temple on behalf of Chennai 2000 Plus Trust and Sri Krishna Sweets on February 5, 2016.
 
The programme was dedicated to songs on Anjaneyar and Rama. The concert was organized on Moola Nakshatram day, dear to Anjaneyar.
 
Shri rama jayame jayam - Ragamalika - Adi - Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (This is an abridged Ramayana composition. There are five stanzas, out of which the first three contain the entire Ramayana, beginning from the birth of the princes till the final victory over Ravana. The fourth stanza is entirely the Pattabhishekam, with vivid descriptions of the scene. The final stanza is a phalasthuti, that extols the greatness of Rama and His life.
 
Additionally, this is one of the few compositions where the composer has mentioned his name directly as his mudra (signature); the last line in the final stanza -
gati illAda kaNam nidhiyena vandadu 
kaviyilum venkaTa kaviyum uNarndadu
Generally Venkata kavi's mudra is a reference to the Kalinga nart
tana Krishna)
 
The other songs rendered by the sisters were :
2) Janakiramana - Shuddhaseemantini - Adi - Tyagaraja
3) Needu charanamule - Simhendramadhyamam - Mishra Chapu - K V Srinivasa Iyengar
4) Veekshitoham - Kedaragowla - Adi - Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (this composition is a part of a group of kritis Venkata Kavi composed on Lord Hanuman, called the Anjaneya Saptaratnam.)
5)  Ramachandram bhavayami - Vasanta - Rupakam - Muttuswamy Dikshitar
6) Janaki pate - Kharaharapriya - Adi - Papanasam Sivan
7a) Viruttam - Ragamalika (Verses taken from the Kamba Ramayanam)
7b) Varai parivodu - Behag - Adi - Chitravina N Ravikiran
8) Tillana - Reetigowla - Mishra Chapu - Chitravina N Ravikiran (Composed on Lord Rama)
 
They were accompanied by M Vijay (violin), P V Srivatsa (Mridangam) and Sivaramakrishnan (Kanjira).

Welcoming the gathering, Mr V Srinivasan, GM (Communications) of Sri Krishna Sweets pointed out that Chennai 2000 Plus Trust and Sri Krishna Sweets were presenting a series of programmes on music and Bhakti throughout the year.

President of Chennai 2000 Plus Trust, Mr R Rangaraj, said the Trust aimed at conducting a number of  programmes including lectures and  music sessions to drive home the point that Chennai was an ancient city which had been witness to the contribution of many saints and composers to the fields of literature and culture for over 2,000 years. Many programmes would gradually be held in suburban areas of Chennai too so that people there could benefit without having to travel long distances.
