Chennai:
Vijay TV presents a new serial Andal Azhagar from September 8, in the prime time slot of 7.30 to 8 p.m.

Announcing the programme, Vijay TV's Business Head K Sriram said the channel is upbeat about the good performance of its serials. In the last three or four years, Vijay TV, which was earlier described as a success for its events, has been recognised and lauded in the fiction category too, with many of its serials like Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal, Office, Thaayumanavan and Saravanan Meenakshi, having done extremely well.

The appreciation for these serials has now turned into a positive orientation in favour of the channel's serials, Sriram said adding that the artistes and technicians of these serials were much sought after even in the film industry!

Andal Azhagar, set in a rural town background, will consolidate the gains of South-based serials which reflect the soil and culture of Tamil Nadu.

Pradeep Milroy Peter and R Balachandran, senior executives of the channel, said the new programme was a result of considerable research on audience tastes and feedback. Vijay TV's channels were well received and had created a good impact, and a new benchmark for the serial genre.

Andal Azhagar had also gone in for a unique experiment, using Ilayaraja's songs especially in the rural background, to suit the serial. The songs had been obtained after paying for the rights, Balachandran added.

Sriram said Star Vijay is brazing up to raise the bar in the fiction front with the path-breaking ventures in Kanaa Kaanum Kaalngal, Aval, Aaha, Pirivom Sandhippom and Saravanan Meenakshi, making the channel stand out in the crowded fiction space. "Vijay TV has proved be a winner with its uniqueness in fiction content, ideation and conceptualisation", Sriram said.

Andal Azhagar is a story about two big families who live in Chettinad which is famous for its rich family values, relationship, prosperity, architecture and temples.

Balachandran said while hundreds of Ilayaraja tunes were popular, the channel had chosen four numbers -- Maanguyilae Poonguyilae, Amman Koil Kizhakkaalae (sung by Ilayaraja), Pothi Vecha Malligaimottu and Adi Athaadi (sung by Ilayaraja) -- to suit the situations in the serial.

Pradeep Milroy Peter said the air promos with Ilayaraja's tunes had already created a buzz among viewers, and raising expectations among audiences all over the world. Marketing activity had been launched across the state.

The serial has Kalyani, Bala, Stalin, Ramya, Natraj, Chandran and others in the cast and is directed by Kadhiravan. The artistes said Vijay TV was always special for the artistes as its senior executives were always accessible and made them feel at home.
